I sometimes ... wonder ... why can't I write something simple and short!? I read so many stories where the plot's done amazingly and all wrapped into this short, awesome, simple story that's still so amazing, you have the feeling that there's absolutely nothing missing, even if the plot's crammed into idk 2.000 words!? And 'm talking stories where the plot could easily be stretched into 20.000 words, yet it's done in 2.000 or so words and there's absolutely nothing missing in terms of feelings, scenes, dialogue, etc.

WHY?!?!?!?!??!!?!?!?! WHY?!?!?! I would have so many stories done, finished and posted if I could do that ... if I could neatly fold a plot into 2.000 words or so!!!

But noooo, I have to write damn novels, have to stretch the freakin' plot into 10.000 words or more ... *makes a gagging sound*
WHY?!
And even if I do somehow manage to write a story, and make it have a plot and be all nice, in 2.000 words or so, I always FEEL there's something missing and I have to edit and edit and edit until the story is 8.000 words long and here we go again!

I hate this, I really do. And I don't even know why this is such a problem - 's not like a lot of people read what I write - but it is and it's kinda driving me nuts!

*sigh*

I have that problem too for me it's either it's under 1000 words or over 10,000... I'm sure there are quite a few people that read what you write including me and I have to admit I like the longer stories because sometimes you need those words to fully develop the story. Don't fret about length if it needs to go longer let it, no one is forcing you to write specific word counts let yourself enjoy your story telling.

I can do drabbles or I can do 10k but anything in between is like drawing teeth, so you aren't alone...

It doesn't matter how many words a story has, at the end it is the amount it needs.

hey!
I totally agree with you... a story follows its own lead, be it 2.000 words or 10.000 words. And in the end, it's the quality that counts, not the quantity, right? It's just that ... for once, I'd love to put a plot into a coherent story, that would only take around 2.000 words or so. And not stretch it out so much ...

I don't know what to tell you, sweetie. I have a terrible time writing long stories and almost everything I do is under 5000 words. Most of it probably even shorter than that. I always feel like I should flesh out the stories more or add more detail or make it more plotty but that just seems to be all my brain can come up with most of the time.

EXACTLY!!! drabbles, I am okay with, 100 words yeah, no problem, but anything in between 100 words and 10.000 words and I can't ... it's like my brain is wired into talk, talk, talk!
See!? I can't even reply to a comment with one sentence ...
but it's awesome to know 'm not alone with this and that it's not just me who has problems shutting up while writing! :)

hey!
hahahah yeah, just like that ... I can do drabbles, and I can do stories with more than idk 5.000 words ... but to try and write something that has a head and a tail, with not so many words ... noup, can't do it and I want to do it ... but idk, maybe my plots are just really needy of words! idk *shakes head*
I love reading long stories, but not too long stories ... because then sometimes the plot is either too stretched out, or the ending is sooo rushed, because the author was maybe writing under deadline or just lost interest in the story.
But you are so right ... sometimes a story needs WORDS to fully develop everything, and that is why I admire those who can do that, while only writing a 2.000 words fic ...:)

I do enjoy my story telling, I just sometimes think that I'd write more, if I would be able to put plot into something shorter ... but well, in the end, it's quality that counts, right? Not quantity.

Hey!
I've read your stories and you're able to put so much into less than 5.000 words! which hey, awesome!!! But I've noticed (while reading your stories) that you really really don't need to flesh them out, because they already are fleshed out! They have everything a good story needs ... so I say ... continue what you are doing, because it's perfectly awesome!

Every single one of your freaking words and sentences and paragraphs and chapters?? Wouldn't want to miss a single one of them.

It seems to frustrate you but in my opinion you have a unique way of writing. I mean this special, goosebumps, engrossing way of writing :)

*sniffles* thank you! that... means so much to me!
And it does frustrate me, a lot, because I always feel like I'm stepping over the edge of too much or not enough ... but in the end, I guess, if I'm happy with the finished product and if you (the readers) are happy, then ... all those too many words are worth it... :)

I kinda like the way that you write and think! I read your stories and like them. I am glad that you are sharing what you write. Thank you!

Honey, you write awesomely, and I love reading what you write, be it long or short. You know my fics generally tend to be less than 10k, but sometimes I wished I could write those long, plotty things as well. You have such a unique ability to draw your readers into your stories, though, giving just the right details, setting the pace just right. And I admire that immensely, you are awesome!

Hey!
No, thank YOU for reading and coming back here to read!! I do love writing and sharing stories, love doing that and as long as there will be people who read, I'll keep on doing it. :) I just sometimes wish I could write something short, but that it still has a plot! :) but as we discovered, the story takes as much words as it takes :)

thank you!

Thank you sweetie, your words mean a lot!! :)
haaha, how funny is it that you wanna write longer and I wanna write shorter!? We do make a pair! LOL
but your fics are awesome, they don't feel short, you know, because they have everything a good story needs ...and that is something I wanna do someday too ... short, sweet, to the point, but still with enough plot not to make the story feel ... well, lacking! LOL :)
and you and some of the other authors CAN do that ...

*Pats you on the shoulder* I feel your pain, I find it impossible to write anything 'short' I try I really do. But most of my stories end up as epics.

By the way I have comments I owe you, and I fully intend to do that very soon, sorry for the disapearing act.

and yeah... short, is NOT something I do good, or at all... especially not stories that have plot :)LOL :)
so ... I feel your pain too :) and sometimes... epics are good too, right!? at least they are for big bangs where you need to have a word diarrhea to even apply LOL
