As for saliva, it's one of the reason we automatically suck a cut, an instinct. Human saliva is not as effective as dog's though. They're eater of anything and dead things too though they need a more powerful saliva to protect them. A French drug is 'Lysopaïne' it's to reduce the throat inflammation in case of flue and the like. 95% is made of dog saliva.
